Keep It Feeling Good: Tips for Maximizing Workplace Well-Being

Perkins+Will kicks off the spring season with our annual Fitness Friday event (see previously) to help our colleagues start the year in a happy, healthy, and active work environment. While it started as a one-day event, Fitness Friday has evolved into a week-long celebration of health and wellness-related activities that inspire us all to embrace healthy, active lifestyles.

Staying active is a great way to maintain good overall physical health. However, it is just as important to take care of your mental and emotional health. That is why our theme for this year’s Fitness Friday included the hashtag #FeelGoodFridayatPW. Across the globe, our offices went above and beyond for wellness week, including activities to support physical movement, healthy eating, and mindfulness.

Staying physically active and developing good dietary, mental, and emotional health habits is a smart practice to blend into your everyday tasks. Here are some “KEEP IT” tips to incorporate wellness into your daily work life:

  1. KEEP IT MOVING!

Get your blood flowing and increase your energy. Take a 15-minute outside walk break or use the office stairs more, just to give you a few ideas!   1. KEEP IT MINDFUL!

Practicing mindfulness and meditation techniques increases the plasticity of your brain. This plasticity makes room for the creation of new brain cells and neural connections to promote great brain health! Take a yoga class or choose one of the many available apps that will allow you to meditate anywhere and anytime. (Check out this app for IOS and Android: Insight Timer)

  1. KEEP IT SIMPLE!

Even if you are new to fitness, you can still take small steps to take care of your physical, mental, and emotional health. Challenge yourself to a quick 15-minute workout with weights every other day. Need to relax more? Set aside some time to breath! There are a ton of apps to help jumpstart your road to relaxation.
