Making the Case: The AIA’s First African American Gold Medal Winner

The 2017 AIA Gold Medal was posthumously awarded to Paul Revere Williams, FAIA. Williams is the first African American architect to receive the AIA's highest individual honor. In support of his nomination in late 2016, Phil Freelon presented Williams' portfolio and story to the AIA Board of Directors. For the first time ever, we're sharing Freelon's speech to the Board.
